Law Enforcement Officers Are Shot in Charlotte
One of the injured CMPD officers "fought for his life for several hours before succumbing to his injuries," CMPD confirmed late Tuesday night. Four members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were also shot, one of whom died from his injuries on Monday night, the police said on social media. The officer, Joshua Eyer, who had been with the department for six years, was helping other officers arrest the suspect when he was shot, the police said. In all, four members of the task force were shot, three of whom died. The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction said in a statement that two of its veteran officers, Sam Poloche and Alden Elliott, were killed.
